About this Position

ABOUT THE POSITION
A senior level management position, the Director of Internal Audit is responsible for helping to ensure the Company’s value, solvency and reputation. Empowered to be independent by its reporting structure, The Director of Internal Audit provides the Board Audit Committee, Management’s Risk Committee and Executive/Senior Management with independent assurance on the quality and effectiveness of internal controls, risk management (current or emerging), governance processes and systems, and functional unit quality assurance. This position is offered with a hybrid optional schedule and works out of our headquarters in Glens Falls, New York.
Responsibilities Include:
§ Develop comprehensive risk-based annual plan for overall extended audit program, including assessing areas of changing risk and required reviews with public company perspective.
§ Monitor Sarbanes-Oxley 404 key controls to ensure alignment with key risks; maintain documentation to support monitoring activities.
§ Oversee performance of independent financial, compliance, operational and other risk-based audits through review of records and control procedures, providing summary reports of results and recommendations of changes to internal controls and systems. Develop leading-edge program of regular audit procedures and activities for branches, departments and other functional areas.
§ Analyze and assess complex operational processes (i.e. allowance for loan losses) and provide objective opinion on efficiency and effectiveness of operation; note process improvement opportunities.
§ Oversees the preparation of accurate, competent work papers ensuring documentation clearly supports Audit findings and recommendations.
§ Attend Audit Committee meetings, present annual audit plan and risk assessment, as well as summary audit reports, findings, and recommendations. Meet with co-source third-party professionals and external auditors to review extended audit results. Present status updates to Audit Committee, including high-risk findings update and status. Support effective and continuous enhancement of Audit Committee communications.
§ Work with external independent audit teams through year-end processes, SOX 404 and other applicable requirements. Collaborate with management to identify root cause of issues and recommend changes to controls or processes to expedite resolution.
§ Manage relationships with third-party professionals conducting internal and external audits including IT, Wealth Management, Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering and other required areas. Establish audit scope, interact with management regarding preliminary findings, and ensure smooth process and timely final report.
§ Explore opportunities to increase efficiencies through potential outsourcing and other means.
§ Serve as primary contact for audit-related questions from Examiners and external auditors.
§ Provide training/education to employees on internal controls, business risks, and other topics.
§ Collaborate as member of departmental and company-wide improvement teams, steering committees, task forces, training initiatives, and other program support activities.
§ Performs administrative duties as required (budget reporting, invoice approval, performance reviews, etc.)
Qualifications:
Education/Certifications/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field required
§ Accounting and/or Auditing certifications preferred
§ 10+ years of experience in Banking, Finance or Audit-related position
