Founded in 1952, the LGRCC is a member-driven, not-for-profit 501 C (6) corporation. The Chamber, celebrating its 69th year, comprises more than 425 members in various sectors of the business community. With a regional mindset, membership spans six counties in New York. The Chamber staffs the Village of Lake George Visitor Center and Adirondacks Welcome Center on the Northway (I-87 Northbound) between Exits 17 and 18. In 2017, more than 105,000 visitors stopped in those two centers seeking information about the area.
Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION: ADIRONDACKS WELCOME CENTER - TASTE NY MARKET ASSISTANT
Reports to: Taste NY Market Manager
The Adirondacks Welcome Center (AWC) – Taste NY Market Assistant promotes regional agricultural products and agri-tourism and represents the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce and NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets at the Taste NY
Vending Market at the Adirondacks Welcome Center. This individual will use their knowledge of the tourism area to promote the agricultural products offered in the Taste NY Vending Market as well as agritourism assets and events in the region. The AWC is a specific grant-funded program. This position will serve as the AWC Taste NY Market Assistant and will work under the direction and supervision of the AWC Taste NY Market Manager.
The Market Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Market Manager, Assistant Manager, and other staff with a variety of tasks, as directed. Primary responsibilities include data entry, office filing, assisting with marketing, social media content, assisting Market customers with transactions and questions about the local products we sell, and assisting with overall services provided by the
Center to the traveling public. Assist with other clerical/administrative routine duties, including but not limited to opening and closing duties, light cleaning, phone reception, assisting with processing received inventory, stocking brochures, assisting with monthly inventory reports, and stocking of vending machines under the direction of the Taste NY Market Manager and Assistant Manager. When engaging with visitors, the Market Assistant will encourage market sales and exhibit the ability to successfully upsell.
The Market Assistant will encourage visitation to local agricultural attractions and offer suggestions that contribute to sales of services and products at these locations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent education.
Ability to complete basic math in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work with the public.
Attention to detail.
Ability to use or learn to use Microsoft Office, Adobe, Canva, Simpleview, Jotform, and Google Drive.
Ability to meet acceptable background check standards (criminal background checks).
Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
One (1) year retail sales experience.
Experience working in customer service and retail environments.
Understanding of basic marketing.
Ability to handle multiple tasks.
Proficiency with internet-based communication platforms.
Knowledge of the organization, operation, philosophy, and objectives of NYS Ag & Markets, Taste NY, I Love New York, Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce, Visit Adirondacks Regional Tourism. Knowledge of agriculture, agricultural practices, regional tourism offerings.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Market Assistant/Taste NY Vending Operations 95%
Customer service – greets, assists, and serves the needs of Market customers and the traveling public. Assist with Tourism promotion and overall Agri-tourism in the Adirondacks Region. Understand and able to describe the local farms, produce, food and products for sale in vending machines. Stay abreast of regional tourism offerings through ILNY, Adirondack Region, Brochure collection information, attraction visits and more.
Assist with store inspection, organization, and record keeping. Must assist in maintaining a clean facility.
Replenishment of store supplies and inventory. Track product inventory. Receive and log scheduled deliveries. Maintain equipment, troubleshoot if necessary and call for repair as directed.
Cash Controls – follow all procedures for proper management and handling of cash and/or vending financial procedures. Assist with office organization and record keeping.
Professional Improvement 5%
In cooperation with the Manager, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and organizational priorities. Collaborate in activities that are in general support of AWC, Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce and Adirondacks Regional Tourism and perform other duties as assigned.
